Fire at Canadian Military Base Kills 4, Dozens Seriously Hurt
Prime Minister Mark Carney called the blaze at CFB Wainwright one of the worst peacetime tragedies for Canada's forces at home.
Four people were killed and dozens seriously wounded when a fast-moving fire swept through Canadian Forces Base Wainwright in Alberta, Prime Minister Mark Carney said Sunday, according to Anadolu Agency. The fire broke out Saturday afternoon about 200 kilometers (124 miles) southeast of Edmonton and spread beyond a training area as strong winds slowed firefighters.
Canadian media reported that a gas line was hit during a live-fire training exercise, the BBC said, and the defense department said there was no indication of "terrorist activity."
